"You have a debt outstanding. Don't you think you should pay it?" Skippy Joe, the collector asked with daggers.

"As I told you I have never done business with those people in...Ahhhh!!! Hee!! Hee!!Ha!! Ha!!..I'm losing my mind ha ha, they're going to take me away, ha!! ha!!.."

To Whom it May Concern;

I just came across some pretty disturbing info on my credit report.

Well first off. I'll tell you about my issue...I was looking over my credit report recently and found a "Negative Item" Showing I had a Balance of $273 to the Original Creditor Being - AT&T Broadband for an account that was Opened on 7-2001 which was supposedly turned over to the Gulf State Credit - PO BOX 10546, Atlanta, GA 30348 (for collection purposes). I contacted the AT&T Broadband Customer Service and inquired on the issue, as I have never had AT&T Service for anything since at least 1996 and if at all I do not remember having AT&T for any Service. I never requested service from AT&T, I have Never Received Service from AT&T for the supposed account debt listed on my credit report, Nor have I ever received a billing from AT&T showing I've had an account or needed to pay anything. I confirmed this information with the customer service representative that I did not have any account with AT&T showing it would have ever existed. He spoke with his supervisor - they never found an account for me, and suggested I fax a copy of my credit report to them showing the information. I have requested AT&T send me a letter showing I do not owe any outstanding debts, and I have never had an AT&T Broadband "Anything" account. I requested this letter to show the Credit Reporting Agencies that I have never had an account with AT&T and that Gulf State Credit is trying to collect a fraudulent debt.  (Below is a copy of the letter I wrote and faxed to AT&T)

My name is ****, I recently found a "Negative Item" on my credit report (Copy of Credit report Item on final Page of this letter) Showing I had a Balance of $273 to the Original Creditor Being - AT&T Broadband for an account that was Opened on 7-2001 which was supposedly turned over to the Gulf State Credit - PO BOX 10546, Atlanta, GA 30348 (for collection purposes).  I recently contacted the AT&T Broadband Customer Service and inquired on the issue, as I have never had AT&T Service for anything since at least 1996 and if at all I don not remember having AT&T for any Service. He spoke with his supervisor - they never found an account for me, and suggested I fax a copy of my credit report to the Fax # of 443-785-1453 showing the information. (this is where this letter comes into play).

I am requesting AT&T send me a letter showing I do not owe any outstanding debts, and I have never had an AT&T Broadband account.  I need this letter to show the Credit Reporting Agencies that I have never had an account with AT&T and that Gulf State Credit is trying to collect a fraudulent debt.

My next step was to research the Collection Agency trying to collect on behalf of AT&T.  Gulf State Credit - PO BOX 10546, Atlanta, GA 30348

As I have been browsing the Internet for any contact information for this company, I came across some "very" disturbing information regarding the Collection Agency and their attempts to collect debts that were never incurred by an individual.  The only word to describe this companies practices is FRAUD.  They are creating fraudulent debts in the names of reputable business such as SPRINT, USWEST  and (In my case AT&T).  Apparently they have been fined by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) for bad business practices.  If you'd like more information on the thousands of complaints about the company I urge you to see for yourselves on the Internet -http://pub3.ezboard.com/fcreditmaniaforumscreditrepairforum.showMessage?topicID=261.topic

I have also filed a Complaint with the FTC - at the Internet address listed  - http://www.ftc.gov about the company trying to collect fraudulent debts.

If you have any questions regarding my request or simply want to speak with me in person, please call me at  ***-***-**** or write me at my address here...

All I ask is that AT&T send me a letter stating I do not have an account, have not had an account and do not owe any money to AT&T per this inaccurate credit report item.  I will forward this letter to all of the credit reporting agencies and also retain a copy for myself as I will surely need it to prove that debt is fraudulently listed on my credit report in the future.

Please assist, I urge you to investigate this issue as well, as they are trying to collect monies for AT&T that never existed.using the AT&T name in the process to try and trick people into thinking it is a legitimate debt, when in actuality it is Fraud by the Collection Agency named in this letter.

Please contact me as soon as possible with any response or information.

Please call me at ***-***-**** anytime for any questions or information as well if you'd wish to speak in person.

Thanks so much in advance!

I have also filed a Complaint with the FTC - at the Internet address listed - http://www.ftc.gov about the company trying to collect fraudulent debts.

I have written the Credit Reporting Agencies in regards to this issue and requested them to remove it from my credit report. I'm still waiting for their response :)

Hopefully it will be a Positive response, otherwise I have no idea what will be the next step as i'm still waiting for this drama to unfold....

And I dare not to call the Collection Agency directly as they will surely start to harass me the same way they have harrassed thousands of individuals.

I can only wait and see the outcome now...

Regards,

"Hopeful of a Positive Response"
