Gulf State Credit Harassment

If you are being harassed by Gulf State Credit for money you don't owe or if you have debt that has remained uncollected far beyond the statute of limitations consider filing a complaint with the Fair Trade Commission. If we can get enough complaints filed with the FTC  we can get the buggers closed down. Don't let another night pass by that has been ruined by the questionable business practices of Gulf State. Please click on the link below:

If this link does not work then try www.ftc.gov, and then click on File a Complaint Online

You can use the Offices of OSI link, which is in a document showing every address where Gulf State/OSI is located to complete the complaint.

Gulf State Credit is also a subsidiary of a company called:

Outsourcing Solutions Inc.
390 S. Woods Mill Rd
Chesterfield, MO 63017

Fax# 314-576-1867

Update!

April 4, 2002

It amazes me the amount of email I am getting. I wanted to update the website some more, but I have been busy looking for work. The IT industry is pretty terrible right now. So I am managing with odd jobs. Any who, enough about me. I got Max Cleland's response back about asking him to ask the FTC to investigate Gulf State. To give him fair credit, I got the response back pretty quickly. I am just wondering when George Bush's Administration is going to do something. Then again Gulf State was very abusive during the Clinton administration. So who knows?

I hope Ms. Anna Davis, the Congressional Relations Director, pushes for action on Gulf State Credit. If we can send enough letters to Ms. Davis, she will have to look into the abuses of Gulf State toward its "debtors". This is her address:

Ms. Anna Davis
Director, Congressional Relations
Federal Trade Commission
600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20580

The good news for me was that my Cease Communications letter worked. I got a return receipt with "Victor Lucky" on it. And I have not heard from them since! I recently heard a show on Democracy Now! with Dick Gregory speaking on debt collectors. I believe he said that debt collectors only collect on 16% of their bad debt portfolios. And get this, 60% of the phone collectors are calling from prison! Depending upon the agency, you may be speaking to some convict up for armed robbery. I hope you find this as humorous as I do. You gotta laugh at something.

Oh, and I have published one uniquely horrific story of some lady, who had trouble convincing Gulf State that she did not owe AT&T Broadband on some account. It's pretty strange.

And congratulations to the state of Virginia for their brand new OSI/Gulf State call center. I know that there is some poor farming town that no longer has to worry about getting a toxic waste dump or a prison complex to shore up the local tax base. They will be able to hire some 200 call center reps, who will be well on their way toward a worthwhile(?) career. High five guys!

Update!

Another remedy to shutting down the harassment from Gulf State is to write a simple Cease Communication letter. I would only advise this only if you know the debt being reported by Gulf State is fraudulent debt or if the debt is past the statute of limitations for debt collection. The only way Gulf State can have contact with you is after filing suit in court. So be sure you have a strong case, and by all means show up for your court date. Also it would be good to send the letter by registered mail. I am not a lawyer, and I don't want to be held liable for this advice.

I am tired of collection agencies that try to collect on debt that is legally too old to collect on or did not exist in the first place. These rascals make notes to your credit report, and then make it difficult for you to rent or own a home. Help me help you defeat these outfits. Send me your complaints.

Feel free to email me at taoguy@hotmail.com if you know of any other collection agencies with nasty practices.

Just another day at a typical debt collection agency. The boiler room manager can be seen here rallying the troops.

I have faxed a letter to Senator Maxwell Cleland. He is the Senator for the State of Georgia. Many of you have gone to the web link and filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, but I feel that the FTC is not acting fast enough. I hope to hear from Senator Cleland soon. His aide told me that she would show my fax to him, and that a letter from him to the FTC could be written up and would be shown with my fax included. I encourage all others with Gulf State complaints to fax their Senators, and Congress people. You could write to them, but as you know with anthrax scare it could be slower getting there. I especially urge victims of Gulf State in the States of Arizona, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas to contact their Representatives, and Senators.

We do have someone who wants to pursue the Gulf State complaints. His email address is: ihategulfstate@yahoo.com.

Update!

January 10, 2002

The email responses have been just terrific. I would like to thank those who took the time to write me. It gladdened my heart to see that I am not alone. I am also happy to see that there is some humanity that is willing to struggle for justice, and freedom. That is the freedom to be left alone from harassment. I have learned of another harassing collection agency called Capitol One, as well as A B S. The following is an email from a collections victim:

CAPITOL ONE has harassed me over a debt of $XXX and I NEVER had an
account with them.

A B S put a debt of $XXX on my credit report from Montgomery Wards that
past the statue of limitations in Feb 2000 and it is still there.

Any help from you is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anon

If there are any more credit victims of Capitol One or A B S please email me at taoguy@hotmail.com. Also if there are any attorneys out there who are interested in Capitol or A B S please contact me.

As for the Statute of Limitations, I think it applies to civil action only, meaning that the debt is not valid after a certain number of years in a court of law. If you are dealing with Statute of Limitations, I would say go ahead and file a Cease Communication letter. Do consult a lawyer I would say, if you have any doubts. But I do find it abusive that these collection efforts are reflected by notations to your credit record whenever these collectors access your credit records. These little rat droppings on your credit record can be a way of signaling potential employers, landlords, and banks that you are a bad credit risk even if the debt cannot be recovered by a lawsuit.
